On older Caravans without a rudder lock, the rudder is free to beat against its stops, destroying the hinges. On pre-1994 Caravans equipped with the original Cessna rudder pedal cable lock, the motion of the rudder stresses the entire system, stretching cables and damaging rudder hinges. To alleviate this, a direct rudder engagement dead bolt type lock and bracket assembly was developed. Aero Twin's Rudder Ground Gust Lock,Kit No. AT-RL-1001, holds the rudder firmly in place leaving the control system unstressed. The lock has a fail safe attachment to the elevator, ensuring it is disengaged prior to take off. The mechanical system mounts neatly inside the tail cone, with the control handle exposed. Kit includes all instructions, parts, hardware, and FAA required documentation for immediate installation on Cessna Model 208,208 a, or 208B air planes. The kit weighs four pounds.
